PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
